A clarion call had been made by the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary (TG/PS) Education District IV, Mrs Lola Are-Adegbite to all food vendors of 93 schools from Apapa,Mainland and Surulere zones of the District to ensure total hygiene is met in food service delivery in the schools. The TG/PS made this call during a sensitization seminar for food vendors with the theme : TOWARDS OPTIMUM FOOD SAFETY AND SERVICE DELIVERY held at New Era Girls High School in Surulere, She said food vendors are not expected to do business the usual way but the right way of putting cleanliness and total hygiene in place. She explained that the programme is important, knowing that vendors are equally important as teachers in the school, who contribute to the physical health and well-being of the students beyond sight of classroom teachers and parents during school hours. “Ensure you have a clean environment, clean utensils and see you are clean as well before anything else. This is the best and most appropriate way of offering an optimum safe food delivery for our children.” The TG/PS however expressed optimism that food and nutrition related illnesses and diseases will be far from the schools after the seminar which is targeted as making the vendors catalyst of war against any barrier to learning in the schools. A speaker at the seminar, Prince Kosoko Adesegun who is the Chairman, Dalatok Metropolitan Concepts LTD appealed to vendors to stay without wounds, sore and injuries while selling in schools.
