The 2017 Lagos State Schools’ Invention T Platform (SIP), formerly known as the Lagos State Jam Feast recently held the its grand finale competition themed ‘Invention and Entrepreneurship towards self-discovery for future living’ at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. The Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanye, ably represented by Mrs Folasade Lediju, the ministry’s Director of Administration & Human Resources , in her speech, disclosed that, SIP was originally designed to redirect the mind of students from moral escapades towards invention and entrepreneurship for self-discovery and future economic independence. According to her, ‘our overdependence on importation of almost everything we require for our day-today activities is not only killing the economy but, also increasing unemployment. In all challenges, there are opportunities and the time to take the mup is now. Entrepreneurship beacons; it is the licence to a bright future’. Speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Adekanye Adebunmi representing Her excellency, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr.(Mrs) Idiat Oluranti Adebule, said ‘ apart from academic qualification, your ability to apply your knowledge and applied skills to production of practical service is what will guarantee your good success in the near future’. Furthermore, she said ‘I am proud to say that this schools’ invention platform is already achieving the purpose for which it was put in place. It has acted as a veritable tool to redirect young people’s explorative thought from pre-marital sex and othe r juvenile vices to the development of hidden talents and skills that are inbuilt in them. Hidden talents and values of our children are discovered on regular basis through programs such as this’. In conclusion, Dr. (Mrs) Adebule implore the students to invent simple machines and delve into agriculture such as rearing animals, planting crops and grains as it catches their fantasies. She therefore, challenges them to take the country, Nigeria through Lagos State, the state of excellence to the league of producing nations.
